What is NHMS 2026?
NHMS 2026 is conducted to evaluate the health of children, mothers and women of reproductive age.

The NHMS 2026 survey will assess the health of children, mothers, and women of reproductive age to identify health needs, support policy planning, resource allocation, and refine health programs

NATIONAL HEALTH AND MORBIDITY SURVEY 2026: MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH
NHMS 2026 is a national household survey conducted to evaluate the health status of children, mothers, and women of reproductive age in Malaysia.
- Face-to-face interviews
- Anthropometric measurements
- Finger-prick blood collection
Your participation helps us assess health needs among children, mothers, and women of reproductive age. The information collected is essential for policy planning, resource allocation, and improving health programmes in Malaysia.
Data collection will take place from June to September 2026.
The survey includes:
- Children aged 0–17 years
- Mothers with children below two years
- Women of reproductive age 15–49 years
- 6.0% are overweight
- 1 in 5 is too short for their age (stunting)
- 1 in 10 is too thin for their age (wasting)
- 46.5% are anaemic
- 7.4% have developmental delays
- 2 in 3 experience violent punishment
Selected households will be visited by a Data Collection Team consisting of three research assistants and one nurse.
Data collectors will carry:
- Official name tags and letters of appointment
- A permission letter authorising them to conduct the survey
Yes. Participation is voluntary, and respondents may withdraw at any time without any consequences.
Households were randomly selected by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
- Data and reports will be provided to key stakeholders for monitoring, surveillance, and policy formulation (e.g., SDG and UHC indicators).
- Findings will be disseminated through reports, fact sheets, research highlights, infographics, publications, and presentations.
- The dataset will be made available to interested parties after a one-year lock period.
Each session will take approximately 30–45 minutes per respondent.
There are no physical risks involved. However, some self-administered questionnaires may contain sensitive or personal questions. All information provided will be treated strictly confidential.
There are no direct personal health benefits. However, your participation contributes to improving national health services and programmes for mothers and children throughout Malaysia.
